Hot Chocolate for these Michigan Winters

You know you live in Michigan you don't think it's weird where there is three feet of snow one day and the forecast is predicting 75 degrees for tomorrow.

So lets buckle up for this crazy winter with some homemade, healthier hot coco mix.

Here at Fit Food Fridays, we have a couple of goals:

  1. Give you healthy recipes full of nutrients and vitamins
  2. Introduce you to new foods/ingredients that are packed with nutrition
  3. Provide new recipes for the same old foods, to create a healthier version --- and yes, that includes special treats and deserts.

So back to hot coco..... now most people LOVE marshmallows floating on the top of the creamy goodness, ~~ But here is the thing…there are some pretty nasty marshmallows out there, so keep and eye out for a marshmallows that are made with quality ingredients.

So options: buy some good marshmallows like these Organic Vanilla Marshmallows or Make Your Own!!

Just make sure that you are using a quality gelatin from a grass fed source!  This is my brand of choice, Great Lakes Unflavored Gelatin, Kosher.

Understand that a cup of cocoa is a treat. It is okay if you want to splurge with a cup of cocoa that has sugar in it and topped with velvety marshmallows.  It is a treat, it is okay to splurge, once in a while,  and enjoy!

You can make this mix ahead of time, and keep it in a sealed glass jar until you want to warm up on a cold Michigan day.
